Avon success at the Welsh National 2011

Great performances from George and Ollie

The weekend of 10th and 11th September, so all are back at school but, it is time for the Welsh Nationals so Avon skiers, George Case and Oliver Matthew are at Pontypool, together with friends and rivals from other clubs.

Saturday, the Welsh National Championships, never the easiest of slopes and with two testing courses they excelled - to come first and second. Maintaining their turning and line throughout both courses they laid down consistent times. George, as usual, doing his fastest time first, was then second - to their longstanding rival from Midlands, but Oliver Weeks overshot a gate on his second run and had to backtrack. The lost time placed him in fourth place.

Sunday, it is the Welsh Open Championships and Avon's Oliver continues the battle alone. This time Oliver Weeks lays down two winning times but Oliver Matthew consistently tracks him - to gain a well-earned second place.

Avon skiers thus came away from the weekend with three podium places and some serious medals, worth their weight in gold! No doubt the battle will continue ....
