Chamkoria Cup, Borovets, Bulgaria in 2011.

west-at-the-topThis will be the third time we have attended, and to those that aren't aware of this trip it breaks down as follows:

FLY OUT ON 01 MARCH 2011 FROM GATWICK,on arrival we will be picked up by buses, and the journey to Borovets is about an hour depending on traffic. Check into the Hotel, which is about 100 metres from both the gondola station, and from the 'nursery slopes'.

Weds, after breakfast the children will go off with Fraser and Peter for some snow acclimatization, and get used to the training runs, those adults that want to 'train' will go and do the same with Stuart Robertson (level 3 race coach) anyone else is free to explore the mountains, there are plenty of guides around in the party.

Thurs/Friday/Saturday/Sunday will be full on race training with our coaches from last year 'Lubo' (ex Bulgarian national Coach) and Sasha, his assistant, ably assisted, apparently, by Fraser and Peter. Stuart's group will also be training at a pace set by Mr R. The children will be getting plenty of practice on the competition runs.

maddie-slalomMonday/Tuesday are the GS and Slalom racers for the 11-14 yr olds, these are proper FIS Children's Races and the experience last year was out of this world, you can only get this otherwise by being in the GB Children's Squad!!!! The other children: the younger ones will continue training.

Weds is the Minis race, and its run on the same course as the FIS, but will be a bit shorter!! the older children will pick up with 'feedback' training, Thursday what went right/wrong with the races, and work on this. The adults taking part with Stuart will adhere to a program worked out by him, but PLEASE feel free to take part in this, its for all levels, and is intended to work on your technique.

Thursday 10 March 2011, back to the airport and home, hitting there around early afternoon.

_DSC0277As the last two years, there will also be plenty to do of an evening, last year the children all took part in a snowboard lesson, there's 'bum boarding' the infamous Bulgarian Night, quiz night (all with a slightly different twist) we will go down to the town for ice skating and local meal out, there's skidoos and horse riding if you want, loads to do.

The Primary Intention of the trip though is 'Race Training on Snow' culminating in the races, the coaching is of a standard very hard to duplicate without spending vast sums of money, the children, we hope, doing the FIS GS will get GS skis, and we will have the services of our own 'children' for the race prep of all the skis.

The Costs..... At the moment the cost for the children is £550, this includes flights/transfers/accommodation/training/lift passes/race entry and registration, team jacket. I say at the moment because we are still trying for sponsorship, last year the cost was £400 per head, we will endeavor to bring the cost down as much as possible, but this is an ideal time to encourage your little racers to get out there and get some sponsorship!! for adults, the cost is £350 which includes flights/transfers/ accommodation, but not lift pass, there will be an additional cost for the training with Stuart, probably about £50 per head for the whole lot (dependant on numbers)

If any one has any queries, please speak to myself or Peter Kennel, or anyone who has already done the training! With regard to taking the children out of school, we have had no problems with this as its not a holiday its actual training and race competition, if anyone would like a letter for their school aren't will be more than happy to oblige.

If you would like to sign up, aren't need a cheque for £150 per head made payable to me, ASAP along with your full name, address, and date of birth, so we can book the flights. The next payment after that is due in January, so you have plenty of time to get out and 'fund raise' or save!! This really is a fantastic experience, second to none, and will be opened up to the whole region, but the club has first chance at booking places, so dont delay........ Kind regards to all Fraser Black,  Chair Avon Ski Club
